EVALUATING PLANNING

The evaluation will be developed to increase the use of technology in all aspects of learning on our campus including instructors and students. The goal of the evaluation is to effectively monitor the understanding and ability to use technology to enhance the lives of our students. Students will be able to correctly be able to trouble shoot and handle age appropriate software. The evaluation will be monitored by viewing the AEIS, AYP and grading cycles to ensure student success. The teachers will be monitored by studying the current STaR report and the data from previous years. Staff will collaborate with technology instructors monthly to discuss their needs.

Campus instructional staff will evaluate the plan by researching the data from multiple sources. STaR chart, department heads meetings, AEIS and AYP reports and feedback from students and educators will all be considered key topics in the evaluation process. The campus leaders will gage the success of their campus by comparing the campus to campuses state and nation wide that have similar demographics. The principal will continually monitor the campus to ensure we are in compliance with Long-Range Technology given by our federal government. Future leadership will effectively increase technology skills among all stake holders.

National Educational Technology Plan

The plan was very interesting and eye opening for me to read through and reflect on. As we suffer hard times as a nation we must always look forward to the future for our children. Technology is the future of society and will be the only way for America to stay on top. The plan is a 5 year plan that requires certain areas of change to met the goals.
The first catagoriy that need to be revised is learning and learnig standards. We must create and design learning with technology. The ability for students to learn 24 hours a day seven days a week via technology is a very important subject in the plan. Evaluation and assessment that allow all stake holders to have a fair and just evaluation is a area of concern in the policy. We must also create and explore different interactive technologies and the ability for teachers to have more tools for teaching. The school system infrastructure must be addressed to ensure that all school teachers and students have the ability to access the internet at home and at school. The most interesting area to me was the topic of productivity and the definition of the term. We must allow students the opportunity to know what the word actually means and our standards.
The fact that many teachers feel completely unprepared when it comes to technology I am not pleased with the lack of of professional development in the plan. If the classroom teachers do not fully grasp the concepts how are the suppose to teach them? Teachers are a huge part of the classroom learning I strongly feel teachers should be treated as professionals and have the flexibility to teach as they seem appropriate. If they are wise teachers the will use technology as a resource but i do not believe they should be forced to teach any certain style. I also do not believe that one model fits for all schools, if that was the case then all students would be performing on the same level. Some communities need different resources and different types of learning to properly meet their needs.
I do understand what the Federal governance is attempting to do, and applaud their aggressive approach to the issue. But I also feel that the actual teachers need to be part of the agenda to really feel part of the team. If we are forced fed all our creative brain storming will be thrown out the window and the classroom learning will suffer.

TEXAS PROGRESS REPORT ON TECHNOLOGY

The state of Texas has put in place a requirement that the state board of education to engineer a concrete evaluation system of the long range progress for technology in our public schools. The report announces the measures and the progress the state has made in attempting the goals between the years of 2008-2020. The categories are divided into 4 different areas that will be evaluated: Teaching and learning, Educator Preparation and Development, Leadership and Instructional support. Among several goals one of the most interesting is the attempt to meet every students individual needs and the style they benefit the most from. Other goals pertain to 24/7 student access to technology and communications among stake holders to be done through technology.
The teaching and learning part of the evaluation consist of the effect technology plays on student achievment, and the resources needed to promote learning. The educator preperation program involves the training of the classroom teachers, and if the teachers are taking advantage of the resources given to them. The leadersship administration evaluation ensures that school leaders are competent on school technology budgeting and promoting the use of technology in their classrooms. The infrastructure portion investigated the issues that must be meet before anything can be accomplished such as: computers for every student, and access to 24/7 internet service. The schools must also focus on enabling the schools for full broadband coverage.
The Long Range Plan for Technology is a plan that I believe is needed for us to meet the needs of our students in the 21st century. I do fear that a lot of tremendous teachers will be forced to leave because of their ignorance of technology to only be replaced by computer first teachers. I also hope with the economic slow down the state remembers that a good teacher is a good person first, and we do not cut back on humans in the classroom to purchase technology. Another concern I have deals with the cutbacks of extra curriculum activities to have the ability to meet the technology needs. The state has already eliminated most of the physical education and health needs in the high schools, I fear sports will be next on the list. With the HUGE health needs of our students it does not make since to only promote more sitting around staring at a computer.

Texas Long Range Technology Plan

The state of Texas has designed and planned for the new generations of learners that are now being to hit reach the high school level, and will be the only type of learner from now until something new is generated. The new learner does not learn the same way as most of the teacher’s administrators that are the ones responsible for teaching these students. So the state understands we must makes future plans and goals to ensure we are capable of teaching in the 21st century. Teaching and Learning focus areas include all aspects of educating and the one being educated, the goal being that technology is the primary education tool used in the classroom. The advanced target allows the teachers to create and integrate web-based lessons. Another concern for the state of Texas is the Educator Preparation and Development, the teaching and knowledge of the educators responsible for using and teaching our students technology needs. The guidelines will regulate the increase of models and access of professional development for educators and staff members. The standard will be for all educators to gain knowledge until they have the ability to teach content or courses online. The advancement of classroom technology cannot be successful unless the leaders of the school buy into the goals that are set in place. The state categorizes this by calling it Administration and instruction support. This deals with all aspect involved in managing the school infrastructure of technology. The new duties will include discovering ways to budget for expensive technology equipment and the expense of resources to train teachers. The administrator will be responsible for using a variety of media formats to communicate with the community and stake holders. The administrator will be the campus leader that must positively encourage and demand that teachers gain the needed knowledge and use the proper technology resources available. Schools will have to take a close look at how our schools have been designed and create an infrastructure that promotes technology advancements. The most basic need will be the ability to connect to the World Wide Web through several different means. The state hopes to fully equip all classrooms with immediate technology to enhance student learning. The goal is to add additional support for technical service and repair by having 1 tech to every 350 teachers.
I believe the state is making the appropriate steps to meet the needs of the next generation; hopefully we can keep up with the continuously changing market. As older teachers retire and new teachers join the industry, I think technology will become as common as black boards and chalk.

Week Two, What I have learned:

During this weeks readings and videos i began to understand what exactly what we are going to be doing. I had planned on researching the problems and issues related to attention deficit in high school students. Also focussing on popular remidies for the issues such as; medication and diet restrictions. As you can see I have already designed my blog for that one topic. after this week I am starting to reliaze I may have bit off more than I can chew! I have learned the action research has to have a purpose and a main focus. I also learned you have to be able to complete the project, I am not sure my topic is resonable. The topic must not include sex, religon or politics. We have to make sure we follow ethical code even though those topics may be interesting. So I will be meeting with my site supervisor Friday to get his opinion on the matter.
